
NEW FOR 2008! Horseback Riding (Ages 7-12)
This is a great opportunity to try your hand at something new
this summer! This camp will introduce your son/daughter to
the basics of horsemanship and riding. Each day campers will
spend time learning about the various aspects of horse care,
grooming horses and riding. This camp is held at a fully
accredited United States Pony Club school. Campers will ride
twice a day and should pack a lunch, as this is an all-day
camp. Please see Parent Planner for a complete list of items
to bring. Drop-off and pick up is at the YMCA.

NEW FOR 2008! Mountain Biking Camp
(Ages 8-12)
Our new Mountain Biking Camp, located at Camp Birkett,
offers an experience unlike any other at the YMCA. Campers
will learn basic mountain biking skills including bike
maintenance, riding, and technique. Campers will also take
field trips to local recreation areas to ride trails and put into
practice skills learned. Bikes will be provided by the Ann
Arbor YMCA, but all safety equipment including helmets, knee
pads, and elbow pads should be provided by the participant.
Daily transportation is available from the Ann Arbor YMCA to
Camp Birkett at 4:30 p.m. Campers return to the Ann Arbor
YMCA at 8:30 p.m. each day.

Youth Theater Camp (Ages 7-11)
This two-week theater camp will concentrate on character development, voice projection, stage presence, and other theater basics. In addition to playing theater based games, the troupe will write a short one-act play that they will rehearse and perform on the last day of camp. Campers will be involved in the entire theatrical production from beginning to end.

Prodigy (Ages 8-12)
This incredibly popular camp is back! Camp Prodigy is a unique opportunity for your child to learn and be challenged while having fun in a safe environment. Campers will be faced with many mind-boggling challenges and games, ranging from egg drops to building catapults, making flashlights and launching their own rockets!

Crime Scene Investigation (CSI) Camp (Ages 8 -12)
For the detective and police officer in your young camper, try out our detective school and learn some true investigative skills! Learn about fingerprinting, casting shoe prints, following clues and much more. Campers will be involved in solving a mystery from the moment they arrive at camp until the moment they leave, but will they solve the crime by the end of the week?

Survival Camp (Ages 8-12)
Learn how to survive in the wild with our new Survival Camp. Children will have fun learning about the basics of outdoor living, camping and team building skills. They will develop character skills and teamwork through activities and games including fishing, constructing shelters, campfire building, orienteering and more. Your child will put all their skills together and have the chance to spend the final night of the program camping on the shores of silver lake at our beautiful Camp Birkett property.

Sports Camps
The YMCA offers a wide variety of half day sports camps. Campers can spend a whole day playing active games by signing up for either mornings or afternoons in Sun and Fun Day Camp. Pre and post care is available for the sports camps.
NEW FOR 2008! Flag Football Camp (Ages 7-11)
This summer we are pleased to offer flag football to your camper! Children will learn the basics of throwing, passing and receiving and will put those skills into action in small-sided games and scrimmages. Campers will also learn about the traditions of football and the importance of sportsmanship and respect within the game. We recommend that children bring their own mouth guard. Drop-off and pickup is at the YMCA.

This camp is a great opportunity for girls to experience the benefits of physical activity in a safe, caring and fun atmosphere. Campers will meet other girls in an environment where they can explore their physical capability and be encouraged to be active for a lifetime. A variety of activities including basketball, scavenger hunts, swimming, yoga, and games at local parks will keep the girls active throughout the week. Drop-off and pick-up is at the YMCA.

Basketball Camp (Ages 5-8 and 9-12)

This camp is for children of all skill levels. Children will have the opportunity to develop their basketball skills, scrimmage with other children. Basketball activities are supplemented with other large and small group games. Campers will spend time with our experienced coaches and enjoy basketball on the YMCA court and at local outdoor courts. Most importantly, campers will develop a good sense of teamwork and respect for their teammates.
Is your camper ahead of the game?? Try our advanced Basketball camp, which helps children take their skills to the next level. Moving beyond the basics, your child will work closely with our coaches to refine his/her skills and learn more about basketball.

Bowling Camp (Ages 7-11 and 9-12)
Try our popular bowling camp to increase skill while having fun! No experience is necessary. Campers learn the basics of bowling, good sportsmanship and team ethics. YMCA instructors provide instruction. Campers will have the chance to bowl with music, play bowling games and complete many different challenges. All necessary equipment and shoes will be provided. Drop-off is at the YMCA and pick-up is at Colonial Lanes.

This camp is perfect for kids who love to move around and cheer loudly! Your child will learn balance, coordination and agility through the sport of cheerleading. This half-day camp is located at the Ann Arbor YMCA and includes cheerleading instruction and routines, team building, group games and pool activities. Try our camp for 5-8 year olds, or our camp for 9-12 year olds.

Roller Hockey Camp (Ages 5-10 and 8-12)

Our qualified YMCA instructors help children learn to in-line skate and play the game of hockey. Children participate in scrimmages, play games that teach and refine hockey skills, gain coordination for in-line skating and perform character building activities. This is a great camp to get outside and enjoy the summer. Camp will be located at Elbel Field. Campers will need their own in-line skates, helmets, kneepads, elbow pads and wrist guards. Soccer Camp (Ages 5-10 and 9-12)
This camp welcomes kids of all skill levels. Our coaches bring experience from England & South America and have designed drills and games that will improve coordination and agility while having fun. Campers will be taught in an environment that emphasizes teamwork, positive attitudes and good sportsmanship. Drop-off and pick-up is at the YMCA. Campers will need shin guards and soccer cleats.

Team Sports Taster Camp (Ages 7-11)
Try something new each day! This camp keeps your child active all week with a variety of sports such as basketball, soccer, bowling, Ultimate Frisbee, and others. Throughout the day children will experience a variety of active large group games and individual drills focused on improving basic techniques. This is a great way to let your child experience the outdoors and introduce him/her to new sports!

Netball Camp (Ages 7-12)
Try the most popular girl’s team sport in the UK, Australia & New Zealand. Netball is a seven-player team game that is similar to, basketball but with more passing and team exercises. This is a great introduction to a new sport that is played across America. Participants will meet other girls in an environment where they can explore their physical capability and be encouraged to be active for a lifetime.

Gymnastics Camp 2008 (Ages 5-16)
YMCA Gymnastics summer camps are for boys and girls ages 5-16. All camps are two weeks long. Each camp will be broken down into three groups based on age and ability. Gymnastics camps combine instruction with years of great traditions, including camp songs and fun activities.
Gymnastics Camp Levels:
Youth camp: Ages 5-6; Co-ed
Recreational camp: Ages 7-16; Coed
Advanced camp: Ages 5-16. For girls who have passed Level 2 USA Gymnastics compulsory program and for boys who have passed the beginner program.
Camp begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 12:30 p.m.
Prices: Members $190; Non-members $210
