Middle School 3v3 Basketball League

YMCA Middle School Hoops League (3 v 3)

YMCA Middle School Hoops League means fun, fair play, good sportsmanship and respect for all. While the play is more competitive than younger leagues, it still provides playing time for all players, regardless of skill level.

General Information

The Middle School Hoops League is offered separately to boys and girls in grades 6-8 who want to further develop skills, and play more competitively. Players will participate in strength conditioning and plyometric exercises, as well as basketball work outs where players will fine tune fundamentals, and learn advanced basketball techniques and offenses.

Working with YMCA coaches, participants will take part in 45 minutes of strength and agility training each week in addition to a 45 minute basketball practice, and a competitive 3 v 3 game. Equal playing time is not guaranteed, but all participants will play a minimum of 1/3 of each game.

Half court, 3 v 3 games will be played on Thursday evenings in the YMCA gym. Certified officials keep score and track team standings. The 3 v 3 hoops season begins January 9 and ends February 23. It includes 1 scrimmage, 6 league games and playoffs.

Players will receive a team jersey at the first practice session.

Team Rosters

Team rosters will be assigned during player assessments within the first week of the program, after the scrimmage(s). Players may request one (1) teammate at registration. We register approximately 5 players per team based on grade and experience.

There will be separate divisions for boys and girls.

Become a Y volunteer coach!

All teams are coached by trained YMCA volunteer coaches. If you like to work with children and enjoy helping them learn and succeed, we need you!  If you are interested in coaching, you need to be at least 18 years of age and attend a Y coach’s workshop prior to the start of the season. We are looking for coaches who have had some experience coaching basketball before.

Our workshops introduce volunteers like you to the YMCA’s character values and youth development philosophy.  Our workshops also give you the practical skills necessary to teach and lead youth sports teams. Coach training will take place at the Ann Arbor YMCA on Wednesday, January 4 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.

If you would like to volunteer to coach a team, please click here and submit the application by December 23, 2011.
