Middle School Basketball League
Improve your basketball skills and be part of a team! YMCA Middle School Basketball League means fun, fair play, good sportsmanship and respect for all. While the play is more competitive than younger leagues, it still provides playing time for all players regardless of skill level.
The Y's Middle School Basketball League is available to boys and girls in grades 6-8 who want to further develop skills, and play more competitively. Players will participate in strength conditioning and plyometric exercises, as well as basketball work outs where players will fine tune fundamentals and learn advanced basketball techniques and offenses.
Working with YMCA coaches, participants will take part in 45 minutes of strength and agility training each week in addition to a 45 minute basketball practice, and a competitive 40-minute game. Equal playing time is not guaranteed, but all participants will play a minimum of 1/3 of each game.
Full court, 5 v 5 games will be played on Thursday evenings in the YMCA gym. Certified officials keep score and track team standings. Season includes 1 scrimmage, 6 league games and playoffs.
Players will receive a reversible jersey at the first practice session.
Team Rosters and Schedules
Team rosters will be assigned during player assessments within the first week of the program, after the scrimmage(s). Players may request one (1) teammate at registration. We register approximately 8 players per team based on grade and experience. Teams will be co-ed in the fall session, and a separate women’s league will be offered in the winter season (January-February).

Become a Y volunteer coach!
All teams are coached by YMCA Sports Staff, but volunteer coaches are needed to support each Head Coach. If you like to work with children and enjoy helping them learn and succeed, we need you! If you are interested in coaching, you need to be at least 18 years of age and attend a Y coach’s workshop prior to the start of the season. Our workshops introduce volunteers like you to the YMCA’s character values and youth development philosophy. Our workshops also give you the practical skills necessary to teach and lead youth sports teams. No formal coaching experience is necessary; all we ask is that you are committed to helping young people build positive images of themselves and develop a passion for an active lifestyle. Coaches training will take place at the Ann Arbor YMCA on Wednesday, October 23 from 6:00-7:30 p.m.
If you would like to volunteer to coach a team, please click here and submit the application by Octobr 18, 2013.
