SPECIALTY CAMPS AT THE ANN ARBOR YMCA
The YMCA offers a wide variety of full day and half-day specialty camps. Campers can pursue their interests with other campers and learn new skills in a safe and fun environment. Enjoy a full day of active games, crafts, and fun by signing up for either mornings or afternoons in Sun and Fun Day Camp. Pre- and post care is available for the specialty camps.
New! En Español! (Ages 5-8)
En Español! is an educational themed camp that will develop basic literacy skills in Spanish in a fun and engaging environment. From the first Hola to the last Adiós, campers will become immersed in Spanish culture and traditions. Campers will have chance to participate in activities such as canto (singing), baile (dance), arte (arts & crafts) and sports activities like Fútbol and Béisbol. Everyone will enjoy sampling the best of Spanish cuisine throughout the week as campers make their own tacos and try paella! Other activities include field trips to local parks and swimming at the Y.

Glee Camp! (Ages 8-11)
Make sure you’re tuned in to our new Glee camp this summer! Budding artists will learn basic dance routines, melodies and harmonies as they prepare for a final day show like no other! Parents, family and friends are encouraged to attend the Parent Show at 11:30 a.m. on the final day of camp.

Camp Prodigy Science Camps (Ages 8–11)
Our very own Camp Prodigy has become so popular we’re offering even more selections this year. Keep your child engaged in a fun, hands on learning environment this summer and choose from Crazy Chemists, Eco-Adventurers and Fun with Physics.
Camp Prodigy: Crazy Chemists (Ages 8-11)
Campers will learn about famous chemists and find out why matter matters, as they tackle the questions of science in a fun, hands-on learning environment! Campers will learn the science behind home made ice cream, make a solar powered cooker, make their own slime and create their own crystal decorations. This camp will also include some traditional camp activities such as games and arts & craft projects.

Camp Prodigy: Fun with Physics (Ages 8-11)
No need to ‘force’ your child into our Fun with Physics camp this year! Campers will learn about the world of physics, and how it’s used to affect the world around us. Campers will build basic catapults, compete in a team-building egg drop activity, construct an electrical circuit, and build and launch their own rockets! This camp will also include some traditional camp activities such as games and arts & craft projects.

Camp Prodigy: Eco-Adventurers (Ages 8-11)
This camp is a fun approach to recycling that will increase your child’s awareness for the delicate world around them. Each day campers will explore creative ways to reduce, re-use and recycle. Learn how to make a throw pillow out of old clothes, recycle old jeans into useful household items, make your own desk organizer, and much more! This camp will also include some traditional camp activities such as games and arts & craft projects.

Session 8 Aug 5-9
Dance Camp (Ages 8–11)
Your child will be the star of the show as they learn moves to some of their favorite dance routines. This two-week camp will teach campers new dance moves, rhythm, style and coordination as they create a routine to be performed on the final day of camp. Campers should wear comfortable clothing and tennis shoes each day. Parents, family and friends are encouraged to attend the Parent Show at 3:30 p.m. on the final day of camp.

Design Star (Ages 8–11)
Put your imagination to the test this summer and get creative! Your camper will spend a week designing and making his/her favorite item of clothing as he/she works towards our Parent Show on the final day of camp. Campers will be able to create designs, patterns and beading using Velcro and fabric glues and counselors will be on hand to assist with stitching using sewing machines. Parents are invited to come along to the Parent Show at 3:30 p.m. on Friday to see their child’s creations as they show off what they have worked on during the week. This camp will also include some traditional camp activities such as games and arts & craft projects.

Extreme Sports Camp (Ages 8–11)
What can be crazier than a week of extreme sports to get the adrenaline pumping! This is a full day travel-based camp that takes your child on a tour through some of the more exciting sports offered in our area. Activities may include Broomball, Sailing, High Ropes, Laser Tag, Inner Tube Water Polo and more! Extreme Sports are complemented with other team sports throughout the week. Most trips require waivers that must be completed 14 days in advance of the first day of camp.

Horseback Riding (Ages 8–11)
Horseback Riding - English style! This half-day camp will introduce your son/daughter to the basics of horsemanship and riding. Each day includes a 45-minute riding lesson that will focus on walking, trotting, posting and guiding. Campers will also spend time learning about the various aspects of horse care including general horse safety, grooming and horse identification. This camp is held at a fully accredited United States Pony Club school. Please see Parent Planner for a complete list of items to bring. Drop-off and pick up is at the YMCA. Horseback camp runs as a morning and/or afternoon option.

Myth Busters (Ages 8–11)
You’ve been told not to try that at home, so try it at camp instead! Our team of staff will embrace your child’s curiosity as we test various scientific myths throughout the week. Will Mentos cause a cola eruption? Can a boat made of duct tape really float? Is it true that dry ice can carbonate a liquid? Will these myths be confirmed, are they plausible, or are they busted? This camp will also include some traditional camp activities such as games and arts & craft projects.

Survival Camp (Ages 8–11)
Learn how to survive in the wild with our popular Survival Camp! Children will have fun learning about the basics of outdoor living all while developing team building skills. Activities include shelter building, fishing, campfire building and emergency signaling. There will even be a chance to sample some edible bugs! This is only for the most fearless of campers.

Theater Camp (Ages 8–11)
This two-week theater camp will concentrate on character development, voice projection, stage presence, and other theater basics. In addition to playing theater-based games, the troupe will write a short one-act play that they will rehearse and perform on the last day of camp. Campers will be involved in the entire theatrical production from beginning to end. Parents, family and friends are encouraged to attend the Parent Show at 11:30 a.m. on the final day of camp.
