The Chain of Plenty is a unique collaborative program between the Ann Arbor YMCA, Food Gatherers and the Shelter Association that helps Ann Arbor Public Schools high school students with special needs gain job and life skills as they prepare meals for residents of the Robert J. Delonis Center. Accompanied by their teachers, the students learn how to travel to the Chain of Plenty program using public transportation. During each session with the Chain of Plenty, students learn and practice safe equipment and sanitary food handling in the kitchen. Within the first month of job training, the students prepare lunches for patrons of the Delonis Center.
Chain of Plenty is made possible through funding from the Kiwanis Club, the City of Ann Arbor and the Washtenaw County Children's Well-Being Grant, and through funds raised by the YMCA's Strong Kids Campaign.
