Fencing
Fencing is a mental and physical high-energy sport that combines the intrigue of sword play with cardiovascular conditioning. An age-old art originally vital for self-defense, fencing is practiced today for its own sake. Students study footwork and blade technique, and work to develop speed, timing, leverage and precision. Fencing equipment is provided.

Martial Ways
Aikido
Aikido is a way of study developed from the code of the Japanese Samurai. The physical movements are based on fighting techniques, utilizing balance, timing and alignment.
Although the techniques are martial, the main focus of Aikido is harmony. Most Aikido practice is done with a partner. The movements may appear to be fighting techniques, but actually are two people working with each other to create an energetic technique and wonderful feeling together.
Training is vigorous and energetic, but students of any size, strength, sex or age can train together. In Aikido practice we do not have competition or sparring of any kind. Classes include exercises for improving flexibility, focus and balance, learning to fall safely, and throwing and locking techniques.

Tae Kwon Do (Continuing)
Tae Kwon Do continuing classes are for students who wish to continue in a class from one session to the next. Please refer to page 13 for a list of continuing classes. All participants registering for a continuing class MUST be continuing from a previous Tae Kwon Do class AND have permission from the instructor to enroll.
IMPORTANT NOTICE
Beginning in September we will no longer be offering open registration for new students wishing to enroll in a Tae Kwon Do class. Due to high demand for these classes, we will be introducing a waiting list scheme for new students wishing to enroll in the program. If you are interested in taking a Tae Kwon Do class please read the following guidelines carefully. The waitlist will come into effect for the Fall 1 class session and sign ups will begin on Monday, August 20, 2007. Continuing students already enrolled in the Tae Kwon Do program will not be affected by this and will continue to pre-register for class through the instructor.
Guidelines for the Tae Kwon Do waitlist
Anyone who wishes to get into a specific class must contact the YMCA's Sports Director, Steve Petty, to ask to be placed on the waitlist for the TKD class desired. When a space becomes available in one of our classes, that space will be offered to the first name on the waiting list for that particular class.
1. The prospective student must be of the correct age to participate in the class and must be a YMCA facility member.
2. Should a waitlisted child turn a year older and no longer qualify for his/her waitlisted class, he/she will be transferred to the wait list for the next oldest program according to the date he/she joined the original waitlist.
3. If a person reaches the top of the waitlist and is no longer a YMCA member they will be removed from the waiting list and will not be offered the available space.
4. The waiting list is first come, first served, regardless of how often a prospective student has been on previous waiting lists.
5. No priority for relatives of current students.
6. When offered a spot, a student has 72 hours to either decline the space or accept the space and pay. If the space is not paid for within 72 hours, it is considered declined. If the student does not respond, the spot will be considered declined and will be offered to the next student.
7. A student who has declined a spot is removed from the waiting list unless he/she specifically asks to be added to the list again.
