Youth Sports Programs
The Y is a starting point for many youth to learn about becoming and staying active and developing healthy habits for a lifetime. Virtual games just can't compare to the real thing! And the benefits are far greater than just physical health. Through YMCA youth sports programs, kids gain self-confidence and build positive relationships that lead to teamwork and good sportsmanship. In every sports league or skill-building class, Y staff and volunteers use fun practice activities and games as teaching tools to help all children improve their skills and develop a life-long passion for physical activity. It's not whether you win or lose, it's how you learn the game.
Youth Sports always needs great coaches too. Consider using your talents to encourage, guide and train young athletes at the Y. Here at the Ann Arbor Y it is our goal to go about the work of Youth Development intentionally and in every aspect of our organization. It is the job of every staff member and volunteer to help young people grow. In order to do that, we have adopted the 40 developmental assets as our frame work. The Developmental Assets, developed by the Search Institute, are 40 common sense, positive experiences and qualities that help influence choices young people make and help them become caring, responsible, successful adults. Please click on the highlighted link to learn how the assets are used to help our staff and programs make the biggest possible impact on the youth we serve.
