Aikido is a way of study developed from the code of the Japanese Samurai. The physical movements are based on fighting techniques, utilizing balance, timing and alignment.
Although the techniques are martial, the main focus of Aikido is harmony. Most Aikido practice is done with a partner. The movements may appear to be fighting techniques, but actually are two people working with each other to create an energetic technique and wonderful feeling together.
Training is vigorous and energetic, but students of any size, strength, sex or age can train together. In Aikido practice we do not have competition or sparring of any kind. Classes include exercises for improving flexibility, focus and balance, learning to fall safely, and throwing and locking techniques.
