The advanced fencing course is aimed at preparing students as if for USFA or collegiate competition. The whole repertoire of foil techniques and the basics of sabre and epee will be explored. Students will also gain experience using electrical scoring in all three weapons, as well as refereeing. Visits by guest instructors and advanced fencers will enrich the experience. Please wear court shoes, loose fitting, full-length pants, and a short-sleeved t-shirt.
Requirements:
-A desire to excel
-For current Ann Arbor Y Intermediate Students, recommendation by their instructor.
-Others must have 4 years experience/class instruction in modern fencing (or two years of private lessons), and demonstrate competence in modern foil, sabre or epee.
We are committed to growing your skills and confidence with each class and provide FREE Sunday Practice Sessions for all program participants. Fencing is a complex sport that requires regular practice and consistency. Attendance is encouraged each week, with options for private lessons available for those looking to progress their technique faster.
