What’s coming to your Y?
Your experience matters to the Ann Arbor YMCA. This includes all aspects and facets of our facility. In order to make necessary upgrades and improvements, our downtown facility will be undergoing a temporary closure beginning Monday, August 25th and reopening on Tuesday, September 2nd for Facility Improvement and Refresh Week.

AUGUST/SEPTEMBER UPDATES
Our downtown facility will be undergoing a temporary closure beginning Monday, August 25, and reopening on Tuesday, September 2.
Closure Dates/Locations:
Full Downtown Facility (08/25-9/01)
Family Pool (08/25-9/03)
During these closures, we will be working to improve your Y experience by:
- Replacing our chiller unit (the cooling mechanism of the HVAC system).
- Completing key mechanical repairs to our aquatics water filtration system.
- Resurfacing our gymnasium floors.
- Deep cleaning all lockers.
- Other general improvements such as painting, cleaning and updating light fixtures.
How does this affect my visit?
From Monday, August 25, to Monday, September 1, no YMCA members or community members will be able to access the Ann Arbor YMCA facility as we undergo repairs. It’s important to us that our members have access to wellness and recreation during this time. Therefore, we have arranged for multiple locations for our members to utilize to avoid interruptions in service.
Your membership dues at the YMCA support our ability to provide living wages to our staff, operate our facility day-to-day, and ensure our facility is up to date with maintenance and repairs. These much-needed facility improvements cannot be completed without your membership dues.

Pool Usage
For pool access, members of the Ann Arbor YMCA will be eligible to use the City of Ann Arbor’s Fuller Pool for swimming during the closure. The Y is continuing discussions with additional local pools for membership reciprocity. More details will follow once additional agreements have been confirmed.

How to Utilize Alternate Facilities: Meri Lou Murray Recreation Center & Ann Arbor City Pools

- Introduce yourself as an Ann Arbor YMCA member.
- Present proof of membership upon entry.
- Physical or digital scan tags will be accepted. Meri Lou Recreation staff will not be able to check you in through our online lookup system. If you need a digital copy or replacement of your scan tag, please call our front desk at (734) 996-9622 for assistance.
- Show your photo I.D. (driver’s license/state ID).
- Fill out sign-in sheet with the information provided below.
- Print your name (first and last), check your membership type (teen, adult, family, etc.) and number of people (and ages) in your group.
RE-OPENING
Following the reopening of our downtown facility, visitors may notice the use of portable AC units throughout the building. These will be in use until September 8th to ensure our building temperatures remain comfortable for our members and guests while the new HVAC system is reaching full operational capacity.
The Family Pool will be closed through September 3rd, and will reopen for use on September 4th.

Locker Room Maintenance
To enhance the quality of our members’ visits, both the Men’s and Women’s Locker Rooms were closed for deep cleaning and regrouting.
January 2025
Membership Lobby
Our lobby is a refreshing, new space! Members are greeted with a new membership desk and layout with two ADA access points for improved functionality. In our seating area, visitors can find new carpet, improved lighting, and expanded seating for up to 27 individuals. You can work, relax, and connect in a mixture of comfortable seating options featuring charging outlets, a large community table, and a four-seat workstation along our Aquatics Center window.
September 2024
Wellness Center
We have replaced the Wellness Center flooring as well as the flooring inside Studio D. Equipment in the cardio section has been reduced (don’t worry, your favorites are still here!), and we have installed NEW NuSteps, an Arm Ergometer, new free-weight equipment, six squat racks, new dumbbells, plates, leg press, three benches and more!
Gymnasium
The gymnasium has been sanded down and refinished to bring back our shiny court floor.
