City Sewer Trunkline Project
Beginning January 5, 2026, work is set to begin at the First Street and Washington Street intersection for the City of Ann Arbor’s High-Level Sewer Trunkline Capacity Improvements Project.
This project addresses utility improvements to increase the city’s sanitary sewer system capacity.
HOW THIS AFFECTS YOUR VISIT
While this project will not affect our building hours, you may experience disruptions to the traffic surrounding our facility, construction noise, and debris. Local traffic and pedestrian access to West Washington Street and the Ann Arbor YMCA will be maintained throughout this project, along with access to our paid parking lot.
We encourage members and visitors to plan their visits to our facility accordingly and allow for extra travel time.
Current Road Closures and Traffic Access:
- The First Street and Washington Street intersection is set to close to traffic at 7:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 7, 2026.
- West Washington Street will remain accessible to the Ann Arbor YMCA from Third Street.
- You will be able to enter and exit via the Third Street and West Washington Street intersection.
- You will not be able to continue driving through to the First Street and West Washington Street intersection, as this intersection will be closed.
Important Information:
- The Ann Arbor YMCA facility and paid parking lot will remain open and accessible throughout this project.
- The anticipated work hours for this project are 7 a.m. to 8 p.m., Monday through Saturday. Additional work may occur outside of these hours to meet deadlines.
- Construction activity may generate dust, noise or other inconveniences.
- Road closures will be required, with portions of First Street and Washington Street closed. Detours will be provided, please follow all construction signage.
- The First Street and Washington Street intersection will be closed for the duration of the project.
- Pedestrian access through the intersection will be maintained.
- Additional road closures on First Street and Washington Street may occur. Advance notice will be provided by the city.
